In 1984, I started my freelance art business focusing primarily on realistic portraiture. Ten years later, an entertainment agent contacted me to draw caricatures, which I had never tried. At the time, I didn't consider this an art form because of its stylized, commercial aspect.
Since then, I've learned that I was wrong and that this avenue of art gave me insight in to the so-called "fine art". It taught me a speed and focus that improved the overall talent.
